Sony wants to get rid of Ericsson

With a market where they have been sitting on 6th place already for a long time, Sony wants depart from Sony Ericsson, a partnership started 10 years ago.

Currently, the solution found by Sony is to buy the part of the business owned by Ericsson, in order to create more competitive products in a market that is growing at an accelerated pace. Catching courage with the success they had in the development of some tablets and some game consoles, portable or not, Sony hopes to shift-up in the mobile segment.

Sources close to the Wall Street Journal say that these thoughts above are very close to reality, half the company's acquisition of Stockholm is already approaching end.

The only problem left not yet solved is related to some patents owned by Ericsson in the field of communications, which are valued somewhere between 1.3 and 1.7 billion dollars, patents that, if all goes well, will be acquired by Sony after the end of the partnership.

Considering that we as users will benefit if Sony will handle more of the mobile segment, we can only enjoy the initiative.
