A false detection bug in Microsoft Security Essentials (given free to those who have a Microsoft Windows license) resulted in cataloging as malware and remove the Google Chrome browser from any PC user.
Friday, MSE began to detect Chrome as PWS:Win32/Zbot, a variant of Zeus (ZBot). The support section of the Google forum complaints started pouring.
Microsoft has corrected the problem fairly quickly with a simple explanation:
"On September 30th, 2011, an incorrect detection for PWS:Win32/Zbot was identified. On September 30th, 2011, Microsoft released an update that addresses the issue. Signature versions 1.113.672.0 and higher include this update "
If it happened to you, quickly update the signatures of the Microsoft Security Essentials.
