The Zune bites the dust!

The signs were there for some time already, but no one believed that Microsoft will give up the Zune hardware platform. Well, this has happened, but not in a way that draws attention. The announcement comes via the official website of the brand, which informs users that Microsoft quits the Zune hardware in favor of Windows Phone 7.

Of course, those who are still in valid warranty for Zune HD will be able to repair the media player if they have problems, and the Zune software platform will live on. In fact, this is a very important part of the Microsoft ecosystem, it's included in Windows Phone 7, the next Windows eight and even Xbox 360. Some external media-players can access the Zune music and can enjoy full functions of the service.

Although Microsoft has not managed to break the giant iPod with Zune, at least something good came out of the whole story: Metro interface, which is found on all the company's future products.
